Hello. My name is Ted Regencia. I’m a multimedia journalist covering the Middle East and Asia-Pacific for Al Jazeera English online. I am currently based in Manila, after stints in Doha, Kuala Lumpur and Istanbul.
I have written stories on the reimposition of US sanctions against Iran, the Iran elections and the first Tehran marathon. I have also covered the 2022 presidential election in the Philippines as well as the deadly anti-drug war of President Rodrigo Duterte.
In 2015, I covered the election in Myanmar, as well as the visit of Pope Francis in the Philippines. I also covered US President Barack Obama’s Manila visit in 2014 and the 2013 Typhoon Haiyan disaster.
In 2012, I graduated from Columbia Journalism School in New York. While in New York, I covered the South Bronx, the poorest congressional district in the US.
Before grad school, I worked as a freelance journalist in Chicago. In 2011, I interviewed then Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley. I also covered the tornado tragedy in Joplin, Missouri and produced news packages for a Filipino television station.
As a reporter for an ethnic Filipino American publication, I interviewed then-US Senate candidate in Illinois Barack Obama in 2004. Later, I covered his campaign for the presidency including his pivotal victory in Iowa and his election night rally in Chicago in 2008.
I graduated with a mass communication degree, cum laude, from Silliman University in the Philippines. I also earned a scholarship to study International Relations in Tokyo, Japan.

I am so pleased to discover this website, thanks to some EVITE on facebook. So you’re leaving Chicago for NYC? to do what for TFC and XINHUA News? Let’s get together before July 20 for coffee. I wish you well in your journalism work and wish to stay in touch. I want to do research on OFW around the world, to find out how their values of family, childrearing, and their Christian faith might have changed as a result of globalization.
Let me know of your interest.
