Author: Ted Regencia

My name is Ted Regencia. I’m a multimedia journalist working for Al Jazeera English in Doha, Qatar. Most of my reporting are on Southeast Asia and Iran. Recently, I have written stories on the Iran elections and the first Tehran marathon. I have also covered the 2016 presidential election in the Philippines and the deadly anti-drug war that followed. In 2015, I covered the election in Myanmar, as well as the visit of Pope Francis in the Philippines. I also covered US President Barack Obama’s Manila visit in 2014 and the 2013 Typhoon Haiyan disaster. In 2012, I graduated from Columbia Journalism School in New York. While in New York, I covered the South Bronx, the poorest congressional district in the US. Before studying in New York, I worked as a freelance journalist in Chicago. In 2011, I interviewed then Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley. I also covered the tornado tragedy in Joplin, Missouri and produced news packages for a Filipino television station. As a reporter for an ethnic Filipino American publication, I interviewed then-US Senate candidate in Illinois Barack Obama in 2004. Later, I covered his campaign for the presidency including his pivotal victory in Iowa and his election night rally in Chicago in 2008. I graduated with a mass communication degree, cum laude, from Silliman University in the Philippines. I also earned a scholarship to study International Relations in Tokyo, Japan. I love travel and photography. I’m scared of traveling by plane, but I fly anyway. Once, I slept outside Rome’s Stazione Termini to save my last few bucks for admission to the Sistine Chapel. However, I lost my moxie to swim the frigid waters of Tiber. Despite my fear of heights, I have tried the Almighty Hermes jump in Wisconsin. You can reach me at: tedregencia [at] gmail [dot] com.
